Fortunately, Closet & Storage Concepts of Boston is here to help! Here are five tips you can use to get a great start on organizing your space.

Go Vertical

One often underutilized area of storage is vertical space. Mounting lighter things on the wall, such as rakes and shovels, will increase the amount of floor space that is taken up and will free up room for other, heavier objects on the floor.

Cut Down on What You Don’t Use

As you go through your collected objects and implements, make sure that they are all still things that you use. Get rid of or replace things that have become worn out. Ask yourself – “when’s the last time I used this?” Consider donating items that your family has outgrown if they’re still in good condition.

Rotate Storage by Seasons

You may find that some things you own are only used at certain times of the year. Tents are usually not used during the winter, just as a sled lies unused through the summer. Having one section that is more readily accessible, such as shelving, and a secondary one that isn’t, like racks near the ceiling, and then swapping the two when the seasons change can be a great way to stay on top of things.

Group Areas by Theme

A garage can be used for many things – outdoor clothing, storage, tools, and more. When you organize your garage, make sure that you put like with like. Keeping similar items together is an easy way to make sure you can find just what you’re looking for later on.

Consider Moving Your Items

The garage is an excellent place for storing things out of the way, but it may not always be the best choice. Other areas in the home – such as an attic, closet, under a bed, or exterior shed – should be considered if your garage is running out of space. In addition, keeping items like potting soil and gardening tools grouped together in your shed is probably a better idea than keeping items separated in different areas of your home.

Keep these five tips in mind and your garage will soon be organized and ready to use. And if you need any more help or want to plan a redesign of your space, be sure to give your Boston garage experts at Closet & Storage Concepts a call today!
