Even if you’re already a fairly organized person, there’s always a little bit more you can do. More often than not, sustainability gets overlooked when it comes to cleaning and organization. We purchase cleaning products without reading what potentially harmful chemicals it may use used and we rely on plastic containers as our main storage tool. If this sounds like you, don’t worry! There are still things we can do to try and be more green. Closet and Storage Concepts Charlotte is here to help with three tips for eco-friendly organizing.
Upcycle and Repurpose
One of the mantras of sustainable living is reduce, re-use, and recycle, and this is a great thing that you can do when organizing and storing things. Not only will you stay sustainable, but you can save money too. Turn what would otherwise be trash into a useful object such as a storage container. Things like cans or jars can be painted or decorated and turned into office supply containers. By upcycling and re-using things you’ll keep your household sustainable and responsible. Furthermore, you’ll be saving money by not buying duplicates of containers you might already have. Go through your existing storage and find out if you’re wasting storage space by filling boxes with old items that you can throw away, or better yet – donate!
Donate
One of the keys to de-cluttering is getting rid of stuff that you don’t need, but just throwing things out is never a good option. It may be tempting to just trash the things you don’t need, but if you simply toss it, it’ll end up taking up space in a landfill, and that’s hardly an ideal situation. Rather than just throwing out your old items, donate them. There’s undoubtedly someone out there who will appreciate it. Your local thrift shops and charities are all good places to take your old things, and there are plenty of community donations centers for everything else. If you have nicer things that you need to get rid of, such as old clothes in good condition and which don’t fit anymore, take them to consignment shops and maybe you’ll even get some cash for them!
Use Eco-friendly Products
People say that one of the best ways to express your opinion is to vote with your money, and this can apply to eco-friendly organizing when you buy products that are good for the earth. Pay attention to what you buy and opt for cleaners that don’t use harmful chemicals or buying products whose bottles are made from recycled materials!
