At Closet and Storage Concepts of North Carolina, we want every element of your life to run as smoothly as possible, from morning to night. We’ve noticed that there’s a topic that doesn’t get much airtime in the organizational world, though: bedside storage.
Most of us have an evening routine that includes charging our phones, setting our alarms, or choosing a book to ease us off into sleep. These routines are just as important as any other in our day, and they should have a system in place that makes them as functional as possible.
With that in mind, your friends at Closet and Storage Concepts of North Carolina have compiled some of our favorite ways to incorporate organization into your bedtime routine.

Don’t limit yourself to nightstands:
Nightstands are the traditional solution to bedside storage problems, but they come with their own set of limitations. Most of what we need before bed, we need quick access to our phones, a remote, a book, etc. These are also the things that we’re least likely to store correctly within a nightstand drawer before we drift off to sleep. Your bedside storage needs to work with you, not against you, to give you quick access to your things without encouraging a mess.

Think vertically with floating shelves and storage:
Many of our customers with small bedrooms think that they simply don’t have enough space to incorporate any bedside storage into their lives. To these folks, we say, “think vertically.” Adding floating shelving above your bed or to its side can add organization to your home without requiring any additional space. Once you have a floating shelf in place, make sure that it also contains an organizational system: everything you need should have an assigned place to avoid cluttering your new shelving.

Consider a platform bed:
A platform bed is another solution that works for those homeowners who don’t have much width to spare in their bedrooms. A good platform bed will come with built-in shelving and storage options that help you stay organized without a nightstand or bedside table.
