There are certain areas of the home that many homeowners have trouble keeping organized. To help you out, our Denver home storage experts have put a list together of some of the common organization problem areas and some tips on how to keep them clutter-free!
Junk drawers
Yes, we know – it’s called a junk drawer for a reason. However, what many people don’t realize is that a junk drawer can be a valuable organization tool if used properly. Think about what ends up in your junk drawer. Usually, it’s things like spare change, pens and pencils, chewing gum, tape, and paper clips – all items you use on a regular basis and need on hand. However, if your junk drawer is so full and messy that you can’t find what you need, it’s time to do a little de-cluttering. Once you’ve gone through and removed any broken, used up, or duplicate items, put everything back. To keep everything organized, you can use drawer organizers and containers. Use plastic bags to contain loose items like paperclips.
Entryways
The entryway into your home, whether through the front door or the garage, is a common problem area for homeowners when it comes to organization and storage. Often limited in space, entryways tend to collect shoes, keys, jackets, purses, and backpacks – often left strewn across the floor. The key to an organized entryway is making sure there is a specific place for the items that commonly get left there. Hooks are inexpensive and don’t take up any floor space, but provide a place to hang jackets, purses, and backpacks. Add a small side table or floating shelf with a basket for people to leave their keys and wallets when they enter. A shoe rack is a must-have in an entryway. Depending on available space and the size of your shoe collection, opt for a shoe rack that will hold one to two pairs for each member of your household.
Spare rooms
While having a spare room in your home is great for many reasons, it can be a place where clutter tends to accumulate over time. Sort through all the items in your spare room and group them into ‘donate’, ‘keep’ and ‘throw away’ piles. For the items you plan to keep, it’s important you have an adequate storage system in place. Evaluate your spare room and decide whether or not you need additional shelves, storage boxes, hangers or drawers. At Closet & Storage Concepts of Denver, we can create a storage system custom designed for your spare room. Having a storage system in place is key to keeping your spare room organized and clutter-free in the future.
