Although May is often considered one of the wettest months of the year in Denver, Memorial Day often signals the end of the school year and the start of summer. To make the most of the summer ahead, read on for ways to prep your home for backyard barbeques and other gatherings.
Get Coolers Prepped
It’s time to dig out the coolers! Find them in your garage and give them a quick rinse. Put them aside so they are ready for beverages. Put a reminder on your calendar the day of your BBQ to get some ice to fill them and put drinks inside early so they are ready for guests when they arrive. Alternatively, ask one of your guests to pick up some ice – don’t be shy if they ask you for help!
If you’re falling over from all the junk, remedy the situation before your party by planning out custom garage cabinets and storage with help from Closet & Storage Concepts.
Consider Trash and Recycle
Backyard parties and BBQs can accumulate trash and recycle due to napkins, plates, and cutlery. Have a plan so people aren’t confused. This will also make cleaning up after your party much easier. Stock up on trash bags and mark boxes cardboard so people know where to put their bottles and cans. Have a couple of different receptacles throughout your home and backyard so people don’t have to search. Put extra liners in the containers in case initial ones fill up during your party.
Make Room in the Pantry and Freezer
Food is a major component when it comes to parties. If you’re planning on creating a menu of items and providing the majority of the food, make sure your pantry and freezer are cleaned. Depending on the size of your party, you’ll likely need all the space you have to store meats, veggies, appetizers, and other food items. And if you’re doing it potluck style, make sure countertops are cleaned. If you’re running out of space in your kitchen, consider adding built-ins and pullout shelves to make it easy to put things away.
Consider A Backup
In case you get rained out, make sure you have a backup plan. Planning to use your oven and stove top is a great first step. What about entertainment? Make sure your sound system is ready for music or movies. Also, consider games and areas of your home that are kid-friendly.
