Here at Closet & Storage Concepts of Colorado, we know that budgets can sometimes be tight. Even if you aren’t short on cash at the moment, there’s no reason not to spend money smartly. That’s why we assembled some of our favorite tips for decorating your home on a budget.
Craig and His List Are Your New Best Friends
If you have to work with a budget, go ahead and skip the stores. Yes, they may have shiny, new furniture and other things you want to put in your home but they also have price tags that will be hard to ignore when it comes time balance your checking account at the end of the month. On Craigslist you can often find great deals on high-quality furniture right in your city. Always be smart about meeting up with people you buy from on Craigslist, but if you play it smart you can get some great deals on incredible furniture and home goods. One other great aspect of decorating with items you find on Craigslist? You will have to pay in cash, which removes the potentially dangerous credit card element from the equation and forces you to spend within your means!
Rearrange Before You Redecorate
Sometimes a room may start to feel a little stale or tired and your first impulse may be to go out and buy a new piece of furniture to liven it up. While this is not always a terrible idea, when you’re trying to work within your modest decorating budget it may not be the ideal solution. When the feeling strikes and you feel like you need a big change, try rearranging the pieces of your room without buying anything new. Sometimes swapping furniture between two rooms or shifting things around can make a world of difference. And best of all, it doesn’t cost you a single dime.
Do Your Research
When you do decide to buy something instead of simply rearranging items, try to be patient and do your research. If a couch looks great in the store, don’t impulse buy it. You may be able to save hundreds by buying it online or at a different store. Look into deals like financing and free delivery, and factor that into the overall cost as well. Even if you’re buying on Craigslist, a little research can help you decide whether something is a good deal or a rip-off, or it can even help you if you need to negotiate a little bit on the price.
Give Upcycling A Try
Upcycling furniture is the concept of repurposing household items from somewhere in your home and using them elsewhere. From converting mason jars into old outdoor lanterns or metal trashcans into planters, upcycling can help you get your creative juices flowing and enable you to look at your belongings in a whole new light. Best of all, it’s even cheaper than Craigslist because you’re often just “shopping” in your own home. Find something in the garage, clean it and paint it, and voila! – You’ve got a brand new piece for your living room!
