Here at Closet & Storage Concepts of Colorado, we know that every home isn’t blessed with a walk-in closet. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t find custom solutions. In fact, the less space you have, the more motivation you should have to make sure you’re maximizing every inch. With that in mind, here are some tips for getting your small closet under control.
Shops Are Seasonal – Why Shouldn’t Your Closet Be?
With every season there is a new wardrobe to be embraced and there is no reason to let winter clothing take space in your closet during the summer (and vice versa). This is why it is a great idea to swap out your wardrobe at least twice a year to make sure your most used clothing is taking space in your small closet.
Don’t Lie to Yourself
When you’re excising items from your closet, be honest with yourself. If you haven’t worn a certain item in the last year (or even six months), let it go. There is no reason to hang onto things that you don’t wear or don’t care about, especially when your space is limited. One great way to do this is to have a box in your closet where you put things that you want to donate or sell. Once you place things in this box, wait a season and see if you’ve missed them at all over the last three months. If the answer is no, go ahead and get rid of them. It’s a nice buffer period to make sure you aren’t purging your closet too impulsively, but it also keeps you on a schedule so you’re sure not to hold onto things too long.
Don’t Hesitate To Donate
One great way to motivate yourself to regularly purge your closet is to keep in mind that your discarded clothing will be going to a worthy cause. Sometimes if your old clothing is just going to go in a dumpster, you may be inclined to hang onto it longer than you should, but if you know that people less fortunate will be benefitting you may fill up that donation box in your closet a lot quicker. When you donate your clothing, you’ll feel better because your closet is clean, but also because you’re doing something nice for your community in the process!
