As the New Year comes around, we start to evaluate our choices from the previous year and think about the changes we can implement into the new one. It’s always a good idea to start the New Year feeling clean and organized. How are you going to stick to your other New Year’s resolutions if you’re feeling scattered? The experts at Closet and Storage Concepts Nevada share their tips for getting 2016 off to an organized start!
Give the House a Deep Clean
There is no point in organizing the kitchen if it isn’t entirely clean. Before any organization starts it is a good idea to give every room of the house a deep clean. Sweep and mop the floors, wipe down surfaces, and do anything else the room needs.
Make a List
Once the house has been cleaned, it is time to evaluate what needs to be done. Does the closet need a few more organizational bins? Would a new filing system in the office keep papers off of the desk? Whatever it may be, write out what needs to be done and purchased to accomplish this. Keep in mind that an organized room has a place for everything.
Focus on One Room at a Time
Sometimes organizing can feel somewhat overwhelming, so it is a good idea to focus on one room or section at a time. If the desk and filing cabinet in the office need to be organized, work on both of these areas before starting on the kitchen pantry.
Use a Planner
Many people think of planners as something only students use, but they are great for busy adults as well! Keeping your life organized is a lot easier to do when it is all written down. Buy a planner to jot down appointments, to-do lists, ideas, and more.
Remember to Organize Your Electronic Life
To make everyday tasks easier, go through your inbox and desktop to get everything organized. Delete old emails and files that are no longer needed and create folders so that everything is easier to find.
Be Realistic
When it comes to organization, it is best to be realistic. Starting off the New Year with a huge list of tasks to do during the first week might not be the best idea. If you’ve already let yourself down after a week of trying, it is a lot harder to stay motivated. Create weekly realistic goals that can actually be accomplished in the given time.
