Spring is the perfect time of year to clean your home from top to bottom! A good scrub of the house and some much-needed organization can make you and your family feel fresh and revived like few other things can.
Beginning such a large task, however, can be daunting if you’re not sure where to start. To make the process go as smoothly and efficiently as possible, the organizational experts here at Closet & Storage Concepts Nevada recommend following these 4 steps:
1. Prioritize your clean.
Many people have grand ideas when it comes to their spring cleaning. And while big plans for cleaning the entire house can be great, they can also be discouraging when they seem insurmountable.
That’s why, when it comes to spring cleaning, it’s best to start small, with the areas you want to clean most. Take a few moments to write down these spaces in your home that give you the most grief.
For example, you might feel like your pantry is a complete mess every time you look in it, or perhaps your mudroom is in deep need of a makeover. Maybe it’s your bedroom that’s in the most disarray. You can certainly go over the rest of your home as well but start with your cleaning priorities first.
2. Choose a room, and clean top to bottom.
Top to bottom cleaning makes sense because you’ll essentially be pushing the dirt downwards, until your last step, which is to clean the floors.
Let’s say you’re starting by cleaning your kitchen. You’d begin with the ceiling. Here’s a sample to-do list for the kitchen:
- Dust the ceiling for cobwebs
- Dust and wipe the tops of the cupboards
- Remove items from the upper cupboards, clean, and replace items
- Remove items from the countertops, clean, and replace items
- Clean the sink
- Continue with the lower cupboards
- Sweep and clean the floor
3. Get rid of things as you go.
No matter which rooms you tackle during your spring clean, be sure that you’re always looking for things to get rid of. Reducing clutter should be a priority for any deep clean. One way of making decluttering easier is to designate large boxes each for:
- Trash
- Recycling
- Donations
- Things to sell
- Things that should go into storage
Once you have these boxes set up in a central place and clearly labeled, it instantly becomes much easier to toss things in.
4. Make Long-Term Plans
If you’re worried about your home quickly returning to its previous state, it’s time to invest in custom storage and organization solutions that work with you!
