Concealing Cords in Your Home Office

Beautiful custom desk in home office

For most modern workers, using lots of cords for your devices during the workday is inevitable. But that doesn’t mean you need to leave all of your cords on display. There are several tools you can use to keep cords organized and out of sight for a clean, sleek look in your home office. Take a look at our list of cord-concealing solutions below.

Cord Cover

With a cord cover, you wrap all your cords up so you only see the protector running from your desk to the outlet. This is a good tool for keeping your cords untangled and avoiding a cluttered look. Keep in mind, though, that it may not work if your devices are spread out across your desk and cords are coming from multiple directions.

Cable Channel

A cable channel is a hard case that goes over your cords and keeps them all together. It can be mounted to the wall or simply rest on the floor. If you want your cable channel and your cords to be practically invisible, you have the option of painting your cable channel to match the walls, the desk, or the floor. As with a cord cover, this tool may not work if your cords are coming from different directions.

Cable Management Rack

A cable management rack is attached to the underside of your desk and used to store cords, power bricks, and power strips. If you can safely plug all of your desk devices into a power strip, you can store the power strip on the rack and you’ll only need one cord running from the rack to the outlet. With this solution, you create a neater appearance in your home office while keeping all your cords within reach so they’re easier to manage.

Custom Desk

There are multiple ways to conceal cords with a custom desk. One option is a hole built into the writing surface of the desk for laptop chargers and other cords. If you need a printer or other devices nearby, you can opt to add shelves or cabinets around your desk that are just the right sizes and have an opening for cords in the back. This way, your cords are concealed and you have a designated spot for everything.

You can also choose to add a cabinet specifically for hiding outlets and powerstrips with a hole in the side for plugging in cords. With all these customizable options, your cords will be almost completely out of sight from your device to the outlet, but still easy to access and adjust as needed.
