Now that the Thanksgiving weekend has wrapped up, there’s one thing on many people’s minds – the winter holidays. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanzaa, end of the year holidays can put a lot of pressure on our already busy schedules. No one wants a messy house over the holidays, so it’s important to figure out a strategy for keeping things organized and getting everything done. We’re sharing our tips to keep things running smoothly during this festive season!

Start Early

The best way to keep your hectic holiday schedule under control is to have a clear plan in place. You should start your planning much sooner than you might think. Usually, mid-November or even earlier is a good time to solidify events on your calendar.  Make note of what materials, gifts and ingredients you may need to purchase for different occasions. Then, decide on a time and day to shop or pull needed items out of storage. This way, you won’t be caught by surprise or accidentally forget something important.

A Place For All Things

With all of the seasonal decorations and accumulation of gifts, it’s common to find that things start to feel more cluttered around the house. Nobody wants to deal with a mess and the added stress it brings. Be proactive by doing a deep clean and organizing all of your spaces before December rolls around. Designate specific places for your seasonal items and make some room by temporarily storing items you usually have out year-round. Decorate With Purpose

It can be easy to go overboard with holiday decorations, leading to clutter and disarray. Don’t be afraid to simplify and cut out unnecessary items in order to make the task more manageable. It takes a lot of time to decorate and put things away, and sometimes less really is more. Make sure your holiday décor is well organized, easy to find, and simple to put away at the end of the season.

Embrace The Spirit Of Giving

Lastly, one great way to keep organized is to donate things you no longer need. Make it a goal to do some downsizing in anticipation of receiving new household items and other gifts. Clearing out your unused items will ensure that you have plenty of room for new things. And what better embodiment of the holidays is there than to pass on the good fortune to others?
