The kitchen is often the center of a home and a place where family and friends gather. If you spend a lot of time in your kitchen, you may want to evaluate whether or not your pantry could use an organizational makeover. A messy, unorganized pantry can waste both time and money, so read on for some tips on keeping your pantry clutter-free!

Use storage containers

Food items like cereal, rice, and pasta should be removed from their bulky boxes and bags and stored in clear storage containers. These containers are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and materials so you should have no trouble finding a set that fits your storage needs, aesthetics and budget. Using storage containers like this not only eliminates the need to keep the often-bulky original packaging but by purchasing clear containers, you can quickly see which items you’re running low on.

Take inventory

Do you have three half-full containers of cinnamon sitting on your shelves? Or several boxes of cereal with just the crumbs left lingering in the back of your pantry? If so, it’s time to take inventory of what you have and don’t have. Consolidate multiple packages of the same item into one storage container, and throw out any expired or empty containers of food. This will help free up space and it is also a great way to identify which pantry staples you may need to stock up on.

Organize

Organize items in your pantry by the frequency of use. The items that you use on a regular basis should be kept at the front of your pantry. Specialty items or things you only use once in a while can be stored toward the back of your pantry. This ensures you’re not wasting time searching for an item you use on a regular basis. Also, consider organizing your pantry by item size. If you keep large boxes at the front of your pantry, they’ll likely block smaller items behind it. Being able to see everything in your pantry is key to eliminating waste.
