Moving can be stressful, but now that you’ve moved in, now what? Closet and Storage Concepts in West Berlin, New Jersey, is here to help you settle into your home, no matter if you’re in the Maryland or Delaware area. Here are some of the best projects to complete after moving into your new home, starting with safety.
Safety First
Get safety items in order. Whether that involves replacing any locks (you never know who previously had keys to your home) or installing new batteries in smoke detectors, you’ll be glad to know that your home is safe and secure for your family. It is also a good time to check on your home alarm system if your home has one, or if you’re interested in installing one. Don’t forget to put a fire extinguisher in your kitchen just in case.
Clean
A clean home can help to remove any lingering smells or dirt from the previous owner. You’ll be glad to start off with a new slate. Pay attention to areas such as window frames and tracks, baseboards, and your air filters. Removing dirt and allergens by replacing your home’s air filters can do wonders to having a clean home and improve your mood. Replacing your air filters will reduce dirt, which can often make a space feel cluttered.
Inspect
As you unpack your belongings, be sure to inspect items. Donate or toss items that were broken from the move, and are not fixable, and items that you simply do not need in your new home. Really be thoughtful about the items that you unpack and put into your home. If you’re unsure if you really need to keep an item try this. Keep the item boxed for a few weeks post-move, and if you end up grabbing and using it multiple times, it can stay.
Settle In
Take a few moments, days, weeks, or whatever you need to settle into your new home. This gives you time to find the areas that need immediate attention rather than rushing into a project. Having enough time to plan will help you come up with the best solution for your problem. In the long run, taking time to settle in and plan can make you feel better about your home rather than rushing into a project and not liking the outcome.
Getting Organized
If you’re settled in and find that you have storage issues, whether you have an odd space or are running out of space, be sure to consult an organizational storage expert. Our design associates are trained and knowledgeable to help you with a free design consultation to plan out a space that will work for your needs. After paring down your items in the inspection phase, call Closet & Storage Concepts of Philadelphia to help you with all of your storage needs. Organization projects are best to complete after you’ve moved and settled in, as trying to complete your project can be difficult to manage before or during a move.
