Craft & Maintain A Productive At Home Workspace

If you work from a home office, you might find it challenging to stay on task and be productive. Any type of clutter or other environmental factors can distract you from your work. Below we’ve compiled a few tips to help you craft and maintain a productive workspace. Keep reading to find out more!

Start with a clean surface

As mentioned in last week’s blog about how a messy closet can lead to stress, a cluttered workspace can do the same. In your home office, it’s likely that your space is filled with old papers, knickknacks, and other office supplies. Although you might not feel physically distracted by other objects on your desk, you could be subconsciously adding stress to your workspace. In order to set yourself up for success, try starting and ending every day with a clean desk. It’s fine to keep important notes or supplies on your desk but if items are not in use, try to clear them away into drawers or other organizers.

Give yourself a schedule and don’t forget to take breaks

One of the hardest parts of working from home is deciding how to divide up your time. Even if you have designated due dates it’s important to split up tasks into individual actions so you can prioritize where to focus your energy. This is best done by using a scheduling tool such as Pomodoro, Notion, Google Calendar, ClickUp, or a classic handwritten planner.

Tip: When you do make a schedule, don’t be afraid to switch tasks around! If you find yourself struggling with a task you thought would be easy, it’s okay to circle back to it later! Make sure to factor in 15-30 minute breaks throughout the day, as well.

Take advantage of your space

One of the best parts of working at home is full control over your environment – judgment free! Don’t be afraid to break out the fuzzy socks, ambient lighting, and plants. Greenery in the workspace has been proven to promote productivity both in the office and at home. If you have leftover space in your office, you would likely benefit from a custom office built-in or storage organizer. We have customized shelves, cabinets, drawers, and worktop areas that are designed to fit your budget and your home’s decor.
