Where to Donate Clothes, Accessories, Books, Makeup & More
Decluttering is a great way to create more usable storage space in your home. It can also make you feel more at ease knowing that your home is as organized as possible. However, decluttering and sorting is only the first hurdle. At Closet & Storage Concepts of Phoenix, we know that it can be just as difficult to find non-profits and organizations that you can trust when it comes to giving away your stuff.
Below, we’ve compiled a few resources throughout the Valley to help you move on from your stuff. We’ve broken things out by category and linked to resources so you can part with your stuff with ease.
Clothes, Bags & Accessories
- Thrift Stores
There are a lot of options when it comes to donating men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes. Nonprofits like Goodwill and Saint Vincent de Paul, and the Salvation Army are popular choices. Stores like Savers also partners with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization of Central Arizona to help provide services and support to local kids. Shelters like the Central Arizona Shelter Services are also looking for used clothes and accessories.
- Consignment Stores
If you’re looking to make a few extra bucks, head to one of the consignment stores in the area. Popular choices include Buffalo Exchange or Plato’s Closet.
Books & Toys
- Thrift Stores
Many thrift stores will take your paperbacks, children books, and hardcovers. If you’re an avid reader, Changing Hands bookstore (locations in Phoenix and Tempe) or Half Price Bookstore can help you clear out your collection while giving you opportunities to score a bargain on your next read.
- Library & Charity Organizations
Friends of the Phoenix Library or the VNSA also take donations. They sell books at a great discount during book sales. The proceeds from the sale go towards supporting the library or other human services in the Valley.
Makeup & Toiletries
- Women’s Shelters
You can make a difference in the community by donating unused toiletries to women in need.
A few places you can give with locations throughout the Valley:
- Phoenix Rescue Mission
- Maggie’s Place (contact them to see what locations are currently in need of your items)
- Sojourner Center
- Friends and Family.
Clearing out your makeup stash and sharing them with friends and family that may be better suited to a particular product is another good option. It can also give you a chance to catch up and spend time with someone you may not see as often as you’d like.
Towels, Linens, and Fabrics
Pet centers and shelters are often looking for towels, pillowcases, and linens to line kennels and provide warmth to a number of animals. A couple of no-kill shelters in the area looking for your donations:
Fabrics & Quilting Supplies
Charities like churches or homeless shelters sometimes have special partnerships set up if you want to donate unused fabrics for quilting. The Bad Girls do Good Things, who we have worked with, also make pillows for recovering breast cancer patients. Be sure to contact them to see if they are in need of some fabrics.
